This is using the Dark Harvest army list from\u00a0Forge World&#8217;s book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forgeworld.co.uk\/Warhammer-40000\/Imperial_Armour_Books\/IMPERIAL_ARMOUR_VOLUME_TWELVE_THE_FALL_OF_ORPHEUS.html\">IA12: The Fall of Orpheus<\/a>. That is a great book with a lot of neat photos, definitely worth checking out. Much of it\u00a0is a first attempt at a response to the Dark Angels\/Blood Angels list <a href=\"http:\/\/pagegaming.com\/forums\/viewtopic.php?f=5&amp;t=1484#p8110\">Colin&#8217;s talking about bringing<\/a> to the Redcap&#8217;s tournament later this month. The idea is basically to have all the Devastators camp out with Coteaz on top of the bunker, under the Void Shields. Colin drops a bunch of Terminators\u00a0all around my fortress of party-times and Coteaz enables the Devastators to shoot plasma blasts at each of their tight little deep strike clusters. If I get to go first and have success with the\u00a0warp dice, they&#8217;re doing that boosted by Prescience. I then get another turn of shooting at them because they won&#8217;t be able to assault and the void shields will completely deflect all of the storm bolter fire and so on. We&#8217;ve literally played\u00a0that about three out of every four of our matches.\u00a0Deployment was standard Dawn of War. Lovell deployed first and went first.<\/p>\n<h2>Fight!<\/h2>\n<p>The local planetary government falls and flees the planet in\u00a0widespread panic as half a continent goes jet black beneath\u00a0the mid-day sun. Rapidly investigating, the Kingbreakers find an Imperial Inquisitor steadfastly searching for lost archeotech that is no doubt the shared target of whatever&#8217;s coming behind the unnatural storm. Scanning through\u00a0records in the local archive, the Inquisitor is beaten to the punch as a host of Necrons suddenly materialize on the outskirts\u00a0and begin marching on\u00a0the town. Far on the flank,\u00a0a rusty, hunched\u00a0Overlord from the corrupt, neglected\u00a0Maynarkh Dynasty is seen\u00a0laughing as it\u00a0casually tortures captured human civilian and oversees the\u00a0field. Ghosts dispatch to assassinate\u00a0it and the foul machines groveling at its feet, but are unable to do so before it shifts back out of the materium.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2192\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8030.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2192\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2192\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8030-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Can't get out that way!\" width=\"530\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8030-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8030-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Can&#8217;t get out that way!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Following coordinates radioed in by Scouts reconnoitering far into contested\u00a0territory, Kingbreakers identify the focal point of the\u00a0enemy thrust. Unsure of their objective or the\u00a0stakes in play but unwilling to yield to the xenos, Kingbreakers heavy tanks\u00a0create\u00a0a mobile\u00a0shield wall\u00a0rolling directly at the automatons&#8217; ranks.\u00a0They are\u00a0met though by sheets of\u00a0sparking green lightning as sheets of gauss fire\u00a0ripples over their armor. The\u00a0Predators\u00a0begin to take casualties\u00a0and the wall falls into disarray. Bursting into overdrive over the wreckage, Landspeeders are skewered by\u00a0a\u00a0giant Spyder construct raging in its mind-loss, hurling the wreckage into\u00a0the Scouts overseeing the battle and crushing them in their position.\u00a0Behind the wall of wreckage, Squad Titus is\u00a0caught by a Destroyer Lord before being picked apart by his pack of Flayed Ones. Their appetite for raw flesh unsated, the ghouls quickly move to intercept the out-positioned Ghosts running back\u00a0toward\u00a0the action from the flanks.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2195\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8055.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2195\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2195\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8055-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Aw, gross, you need to do some clean laundry, dudes.\" width=\"530\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8055-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8055-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2195\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aw, gross, you need to do some clean laundry, dudes.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Watching his forces grind to a halt, Captain Angholan and Squad Scolirus drop behind the Necron line just\u00a0as they\u00a0find whatever they came for and\u00a0turn about-face.\u00a0The automatons march on though, unphased by the\u00a0ground set ablaze all around them. Contemptful of the fleshlings&#8217;\u00a0audacity,\u00a0all of the Necron Lords converge to fight in\u00a0synchronized\u00a0lethality with the captain, binding him in combat and unable to challenge for the relic.\u00a0The identity and condition\u00a0of the archeotech is never established as an unbreakable wall of Monoliths slowly\u00a0drifts into position blocking the Necron retreat from all observation and fire.<\/p>\n<h2>Outcome<\/h2>\n<p>Victory for the Maynarkh! Necrons\u00a0claim the relic, first blood,\u00a0and linebreaker, versus the Kingbreakers&#8217; linebreaker.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2196\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8056.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2196\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8056-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"We've taken what we came for!\" width=\"530\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8056-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8056-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2196\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">We&#8217;ve taken what we came for!<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Thoughts<\/h2>\n<p>I upped the Devastators to a full squad to have ablative wounds for\u00a0the\u00a0heavy weapons. I figured\u00a0that protected\u00a0my investment in Coteaz since he wouldn&#8217;t be as useful if the heavies died. However,\u00a0those combined with the void shields and the bunker&#8217;s battlements cover were probably redundant. Either\u00a0the dudes or the shields could and probably should be cut back.<\/p>\n<p>The Landspeeders unfortunately did little.\u00a0As always they&#8217;re super fragile, but they&#8217;re especially\u00a0not well matched against Lovell&#8217;s army. The multi-meltas are only really useful against the Monoliths, both of which tend to come from reserve and avoid some turns of shooting. Especially without the Salamanders&#8217; reroll under the new codex, the heavy flamers aren&#8217;t super lethal against the Necron.\u00a0Plus they can&#8217;t really help with the relic, as opposed to more straightforward objective missions when their mobility is a boost\u00a0to help\u00a0cover the table.<\/p>\n<p>One mistake was I tried to fight the Flayed Ones rather than ignoring them as best as possible.\u00a0I keep\u00a0thinking\u00a0they&#8217;re less robust to shooting than they actually are now. My\u00a0vehicles should have been\u00a0cruising and going flat out to just drive away from them.\u00a0They&#8217;d still have to be faced at some point as the Monoliths could beam them\u00a0back into the action, but at least it would have been near the relic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2194\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8042.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2194\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2194\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_8042-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Well, we could just stand here and look at each other. Or we could go for burgers.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I made a substantial mistake at the start of the game when\u00a0I managed to Infiltrate the Scouts\u00a0within reach of the relic but did not go for it\u00a0the first turn. I was thinking they would have\u00a0been shot to pieces standing there in full sight of many Immortals. But I probably should have just tried. It would have\u00a0changed things a lot if I&#8217;d managed to move the relic just a few inches closer to my lines. Definitely worth a few Scouts&#8217; lives in such service to the Emperor!<\/p>\n<p>Lovell ran a good feint here, putting\u00a0his warlord out on the flank. I fell right for it, going after him with the Sternguard. They didn&#8217;t manage to do much and then of course the Overlord\u00a0used a Monolith to warp himself into the action, leaving the Sternguard well\u00a0out of position and out of the fight.<\/p>\n<p>On that note, the big issue here though was a lack of\u00a0mobility. I couldn&#8217;t get the Sternguard back in,\u00a0and I had a bunch of guys basically dedicated to camping out around the bunker. I should have basically abandoned that from the start of the game and started running dudes toward the relic. Similarly the Sternguard and Scouts should have just piled into the center and in hopes that the\u00a0Marines would win out in the massive scrum likely to ensue.<\/p>\n<h2>Bring Me Their Flesh!<\/h2>\n<p>All in all a good game that Lovell won outright through steady substantial\u00a0attrition of all my forces in position to really threaten the relic.
