What I&#8217;m most pleased with is that the posing is pretty dynamic for a walker. It was a little fiddly to hold everything at the desired\u00a0angles while also gluing the joints, but the whole leg assembly is really posable and the feet and cab are on ball joints so there was a lot of room to play.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2085\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/sentinel-back.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2085\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2085\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/sentinel-back-663x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Whoa, buddy, hold 'er steady!\" width=\"530\" height=\"818\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/sentinel-back-663x1024.jpg 663w, https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/sentinel-back-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/sentinel-back.jpg 984w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2085\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Whoa, buddy, hold &#8216;er steady!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This was super fast to paint, and it came out simple but effective.\u00a0I couldn&#8217;t come up with a two-tone vehicle scheme to match my\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/2013\/11\/forest-guard-command-squad\/\">Forest Guard infantry pattern<\/a>\u00a0that I was happy with, so I went with straight brown. In the end I think it&#8217;ll go well with the duders while also standing out from them, is more realistic than a two-tone, isn&#8217;t green or gray like GW&#8217;s demo models tend\u00a0toward, and was\u00a0easy to do. The core process was basically:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Primer: Army Painter white spray<\/li>\n<li>Body: Steel Legion Drab\u00a0base coat x2, Vermin Brown drybrush (this color name is no longer produced by GW), Agrax Earthshade wash<\/li>\n<li>Metal bits: Leadbelcher base, Mithril silver drybrush highlights, Nuln Oil wash<\/li>\n<li>Rubble: Skavenblight\u00a0Dinge base coat x2, Codex Grey drybrush, Bleached Bone base &amp; Skull White drybrush for the ossuary skeletons and skull, all washed with Nuln Oil<\/li>\n<li>Base: Vermin Brown base coat, several\u00a0coats along the outer rim<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0Vermin Brown drybrush all over the body was heavier than I meant it to be and made the model a little lighter in color than I was originally thinking, but introduced some nice subtle colorations, particularly after\u00a0the wash. On some of the larger panels\u00a0it has a really neat sun-faded effect (hard to see in the photos).<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately I must have let too much matte sealer spray coat collect in some places because the colors shifted and muted a bit in places, particularly the metals. Some of the finer details also frosted over a bit. It&#8217;s particularly noticeable around the skulls on the weapons. Yep, that&#8217;ll scare &#8217;em.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Painting\u00a0my Guard has been really\u00a0fun so far, as long as I totally ignore how few points are getting done with each session. I&#8217;ve consciously worked to keep the painting process simple and to be a bit faster and less obsessive than I had been on my Kingbreakers. That&#8217;s paid dividends as I&#8217;ve then let loose a bit on\u00a0those Marines\u00a0as well and they are also now getting done faster, with\u00a0no true\u00a0consequences on the quality. Having this other small force going also helps a lot with the monotony of doing millions of shoulder pad trims, definitely the part I hate most about Space Marines.\u00a0Not doing any\u00a0hard edging or\u00a0highlights, and having two\u00a0core\u00a0colors (brown body + gray armor)\u00a0rather than four (tan legs, blue torso, green arms, red trim)\u00a0makes quite\u00a0a refreshing change in switching to the Guard\u00a0for a bit.\u00a0The Forest Guard\u00a0also look quite different from my Kingbreakers, though they work together pretty well visually.<\/p>\n<p>More to come!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I finished up another model\/unit for my Imperial Guard Astra Militarum: These pictures aren&#8217;t perfect, they&#8217;re a little dark, but I&#8217;m super happy with how this guy turned out.
