{"id":1526,"date":"2013-12-15T23:51:12","date_gmt":"2013-12-16T04:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/?p=1526"},"modified":"2014-03-11T18:41:57","modified_gmt":"2014-03-11T22:41:57","slug":"c2c-le-banquet-historical-clips-rundown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rocketshipgames.com\/blogs\/tjkopena\/2013\/12\/c2c-le-banquet-historical-clips-rundown\/","title":{"rendered":"C2C&#8212;Le Banquet Historical Clips Rundown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my true musical highlights this year or so has been <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tetra-C2c\/dp\/B008MMFC56\/ref=ntt_mus_dp_dpt_1\">Tetra<\/a><\/em>, a late 2012 album from French turntable\/beat group\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.c2cmusic.fr\/\">C2C<\/a>. \u00a0If you&#8217;ve raced at all in the <a href=\"http:\/\/collegiatecycling.org\/eccc\/\">ECCC<\/a> in 2013, you&#8217;ve heard them, clearly enjoyed it, and tragically just not known it. \u00a0Anyway, almost all of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tetra-C2c\/dp\/B008MMFC56\/ref=ntt_mus_dp_dpt_1\"><em>Tetra<\/em><\/a> is good, but a number of tracks are excellent. \u00a0My favorite is\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4HegFilQ26I\">Le Banquet<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0There&#8217;s no official video yet, but there are a number of clip compilations on YouTube. \u00a0Among the better done is a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fbqRFOBrkUA\">Marvel mashup<\/a>, but a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lwtX4o6W5bE\">Snatch extract<\/a>\u00a0is actually probably the most compelling of these. \u00a0Among these options though I find it actually more interesting with just the audio:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"C2C - Le Banquet (feat. Netik, Tigerstyle, Rafik, Kentaro &amp; Vajra)\" width=\"530\" height=\"298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4HegFilQ26I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In any event, the primary lyrics of the song are actually spoken word sound samples. \u00a0Some of them are fairly immediately identifiable as actual recordings of speeches from historical figures. \u00a0Assuming&#8212;probably incorrectly&#8212;that they were all historical, I went looking to try and figure out all of them. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t find any list or extensive references online, so below I present most of the sources to\u00a0<em>Le Banquet<\/em>, as best as I can assemble.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/painpumpkin.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/14\/c2c-le-banquet-histoire-americaine-et-abstract-hip-hop-francais\/\">This blog post<\/a>, though in French, also has a good rundown of the sources.<\/p>\n<h2>C2C<\/h2>\n<p>First, a minor digression to highlight some of the other excellent tracks from Tetra which have official videos.<\/p>\n<p>I first heard of the group &amp; the album via <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/gpc3cCxWNkU\"><em>Down the Road<\/em>,<\/a> played at 3am on some college radio station along the I95 corridor. \u00a0The official video is quite good:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"C2C - Down the Road (Official Video starring Richie Jackson)\" width=\"530\" height=\"298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gpc3cCxWNkU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/2b03hoW0TKc\">The Beat<\/a><\/em> is also excellent, in both song and video:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"C2C - The Beat (Official Video)\" width=\"530\" height=\"298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2b03hoW0TKc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/PZbkF-15ObM\"><em>Delta<\/em><\/a> is pretty different, and has a cool sci-fi cartoon narrative video:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"C2C - Delta (Official Video)\" width=\"530\" height=\"298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PZbkF-15ObM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Taking the range even further, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tvY7Nw1i6Kw\">Happy<\/a><\/em> is super different musically and has an accordingly different and great video, probably the best one due to the ongoing dance routine:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"C2C - Happy (feat. Eisenhower also has this phrase in his 1956 Address Accepting the Republican Presidential Nomination<\/a>. <strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> Listening to the <a href=\"http:\/\/millercenter.org\/president\/speeches\/detail\/3359\">audio<\/a>, I now believe this to be the reference.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Some men see things as they are and say why<br \/>\nI dream things that never were and say why not<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanrhetoric.com\/speeches\/ekennedytributetorfk.html\">Ted Kennedy paraphrasing and eulogizing his brother Robert F.
